Hayes Barton
You can (literally) have your cake and eat it too when you live at Urban Place, as it’s super close to Hayes Barton, a Raleigh gem boasting ’40s-inspired dinerlike digs and a retro interior. Paying homage to the “golden era of dining,” the vintage restaurant serves up nostalgic lunch and dinner menus. For lunch, there’s salads, soup of the day, sandwiches, and “grill selections” like cheeseburgers and grilled cheese. Classic soft drinks and/or a milkshake to pair are highly encouraged!
Come dinner time, the menu features more hearty apps and entrees like wings, crab dip, mussels, meatloaf, pasta, chicken pot pie, and much more. Think classic diner fare but with an elevated twist—plus beer and wine.
But Hayes Barton’s claim to fame is, naturally, its desserts, especially cakes, which can (and should!) be ordered by the slice after a delicious meal—or to take home for later. The German chocolate cake is a super popular choice, but the carrot cake, pumpkin spice cake, red velvet cake, and lemon blueberry cake are also great choices. They also have pies—choose from key lime, caramel apple, chocolate pecan, and more—and a delectable Bailey’s Irish cream tiramisu. You can also order whole cakes in advance for your next gathering!
