If you’re a car fanatic, hobbyist, or home workout stan, you likely know all too well how important the garage is. While many simply see it as storage, garages are becoming all the more attractive—and an important feature of the home that catches your attention instead of falling to the wayside. Like with general home trends, garages are also having a bit of a moment. Modern garages are elegant, edgy, and, of course, complement the home’s exterior. Here, we feature some contemporary garage styles that are gaining popularity.
Black Doors
We love how the black garage doors contrast the white of this custom UBS home. And while it may look like only a two-car garage, the interior is super spacious, allowing for up to three cars (!).
Here’s another example of black garage doors the UBS team used for a custom build. This one, in contrast, is a more traditional design that still feels modern—especially thanks to the gorgeous stone of the home.
Tucked-Away Barn Door-Like Doors
While it’s more customary to have a garage jut out from the front of the home, in this custom build, we set it back and tucked it under the front porch to help create volume and layers. Additionally, the barn-esque doors fit right in with the traditional style of home.
Detached Garage
Detached garages—like this one we custom built to go with one of our homes on Georgetown Road—are rapidly gaining popularity, as they allow for an extra bedroom, office, ADU, or other flex space above them (think a guest suite, yoga studio, home gym, or craft space). The world really is your oyster!
Wooden Doors
Brown wooden garage doors create a cool focal point, especially when juxtaposed with a white home—and matched with a wood front door. We love how this one has a pattern in the garage doors to make them even more eye-catching.
Double Doors
This balanced look—featuring a double-door garage in the center flanked by two single garages—is becoming increasingly popular, especially among those who have a big car collection. You can fit up to four cars, or save one of the single ones for storage.
Backlit Opaque
Talk about glowing curb appeal! Backlit garage doors help with illumination at night, while opaque doors create an appealing sense of mystery.
Split Garages
Now that’s something you don’t see every day! You may have seen a double garage separated from the home by a walkway, but this one takes it a step further by splitting the garages down the middle to create a walkway between them—plus offering more space for additional living space above. How neat!
All Black
Speaking of edgy, check out this smooth, all-black detached garage. Black exteriors are having a moment right now, but obviously, you’ll want to lean more sleek than spooky.
Modernize Your Garage
As you can see, there are plenty of different modern garage styles out there that are gaining popularity. Your garage really does deserve as much attention as your home!
